Please read the following document carefully, as it provides information essential to minimising disruption for you and your customers.
OVERVIEW
On 23 November 2017 we will upgrade the server hardware for orcus.uksrv.co.uk - this server hosts your website and email.
Important: You should ensure that any transactional (e.g. ecommerce) websites are placed into maintenance mode before 21:00hrs on 22 November 2017 to ensure changes to their databases are not lost whilst accounts are transferred between hardware.
Once data syncronisation is completed both the new and old servers will need to be reconfigured. This will cause a period of disruption of around 30 minutes, during which the server will be offline. Email received during this period will be queued by our incoming mail handlers and will be delivered once the new server is live.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO
Enable Email SSL : After the upgrade is complete the server will only accept email connections that are protected using TLS (the new name for SSL). All modern email clients and devices (phones, and tablets etc) support this and it is likely already configured by default. Usually it is simply a case of ticking a box in your email software to enable SSL/TLS.
Check incoming (POP3/IMAP) and outgoing (SMTP) email server name : If you are NOT already connecting using SSL, you can use orcus.uksrv.co.uk as the incoming and outgoing server name.
Unless this is done, email software will most likely complain about an SSL certificate mismatch, or may refuse to connect at all. You can make the above changes today - there's no need to wait until the server is upgraded.
